My First Internship Story
I had my first internship in year 2001(June-July)
for 8 weeks after completing first year of B.com (Professional), aim was to
understand the professional environment and the challenge was to search the
company by your own. At that time, I had very few choice sin terms of choosing
the industry like FMCG / Industrial goods. Kind of FMCG companies in Jalandhar
wasn't of my choices and also it's difficult to get internship there. A very
popular company in Jalandhar for internship is the one even till today which
manufacture Bomb Shells.
Like most of the other students, i consult
with my father he is into industrial machinery business, gives me the
contact of the Marketing head of one industrial goods marketing company doing
business PAN India with different sub-brand names.
I went their my own , the company branch office
was on the Amritsar-Jalandhar highway, it took me almost 45 mins from my
house (Transport i used was Two-wheeler" My birthday gift Kinetic Honda)
.I met the marketing head -. He said as such i have no vacancy for the
internees but tell me how can i help you.. What are you looking for?
His speech was unexpected to me because i thought
company is ready to bear with me. (Learning no.1), i always have interest to do
something in marketing ie why i chose Commerce and Management stream and then
did my Masters in Pure Economics.
I told him that i want to study the
Marketing mix of your company and how do you develop it. He asked me what Marketing
Mix is and what exactly i want to know. He tried to finish my internship by
afternoon........which I never wanted because i had a mission to be there for
at least a month. (Learning no.2)
I come back to home,, prepare an agenda a for
me so that he will allow me to retain there. But, after completing some 4
weeks there and preparing a report before the college starts in August
(Learning no.3), I realized that this internship opens my mind regarding the
Marketing mix concept (Learning no.4) and also understood the philosophy how it
was developed by an Industrial goods.
